The dream turns into reality.

Posted on 09 May 2012

I've been putting off writing this blog post, because I still haven't been able to put into words just how incredible the last few months have been.  Even when I tell family & friends about my journey, I never quite seem to be able to portray the wonderful highs, the incredible lows, the bubbling excitement, the quiet, niggling fears, the excruciating frustration, the loneliness, the liberating feeling of doing things on ones own, the endless decisions, the pride in seeing things coming together, the absolutely breathtaking beauty & generosity of India & the shocking ugliness of the poverty and the filth. If I were a better writer, I'd be able to bring to life the lunch times spent with the women who work in the factory at their homes & the kindness & generosity they showed me.  I'd be able to perfectly describe the wonderful afternoons on the beach with new, lifelong friends who showed so much enthusiasm & encouragement for what I was doing.  I could explain the creeping dread in the middle of the night, where I'd worry if I'd chosen the right colours, got the right measurements & wonder how on earth I'll ever pay off the mounting debts that I've amassed, to make this dream of mine a reality.  And I could highlight how absolutely liberating it is to have followed my dream, stood on my own two feet, thrown caution to the wind & gone out and done exactly what I wanted to do. [caption id="attachment_481" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="In January the "dream"looked something like this...."][/caption] Yesterday I stumbled across the cut-out paper versions of the trousers (see my first blog post) that I'd made back in January when I was desperately trying to make a final decision on the colours & the range before I left for India.  A huge smile formed across my face when the little papery Marzipants fell out of their plastic wallett & onto the floor.  They say a picture tells a thousand words, so I'll leave it up to the images to do that talking....... This is what I've been up to over the last 3 months........ [caption id="attachment_483" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="In between is looked something like this........"][/caption]   [caption id="attachment_484" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="...... And this"][/caption]   [caption id="attachment_482" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="And by April the "dream" had turned into a REALITY & Marzipants now look like this!!! "][/caption]

Wow, I have just come across your site.. I have no idea how I got here, but I am so happy I did!! I absolutely love your story Maree, the fact that you saw an opportunity for a great product in the market and just ran with it… Marzipants are awesome.

But what is more awesome is the story behind them, I think it is brilliant that you have featured Ashok and the ladies on your site, putting their happy faces to the story was just perfect.

I really love how Marzipants have created jobs in the local area, and to know a little back story about each worker is fantastic.

Its so rare to come across people like yourself in this world, and I really really wish you all the success with building the marzipants brand!

Have just shared your site with my friends on facebook.
Hopefully should bring you some custom, will be following what you are doing from now on :D

    Wow, thank you so much!

Sorry for not replying sooner – I’ve only just seen your message. Your comments couldn’t have come at a better time, I’m sitting here trying not to throw my computer out of the window as I battle with doing all the SEO & marketing by myself & not really knowing much about it at all. I think perseverance must be the key. Boy, I can’t wait to be able to have the funds to get someone to help me….. anyone fancy an internship?

Thank you so much for sharing my page, during these early stages it really is all about word of mouth so thank you, thank you, thank you & looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    xxx
